Ockeghem Johannes

Missa Prolationum & Marian motets – The Hilliard Ensemble

The “prolatio” is a very contrapunctal technique linked to the division of time. Of course, when hearing the music, non-specialists appreciate the harmony of the ensemble, but do not detect the process. It has been used by many modern composers mutatis mutandis. The Hilliard ensemble is an outstanding interpret of polyphonic vocal music from the Middle ages and the renaissance.

Johannes Ockeghem (also Jean deJan; surname OkeghemOgkegumOkchemHocquegamOckegham; other variant spellings are also encountered) (1410/1425 – February 6,[2] 1497) was the most famous composer of the Franco-Flemish School in the last half of the 15th century, and is often considered the most influential composer between Guillaume Dufay and Josquin des Prez. In addition to being a renowned composer, he was also an honored singer, choirmaster, and teacher.
