Fago Francesco Nicola

Francesco Nicola Fago, ‘II Tarantino’ (26 February 1677 – 18 February 1745) was an ItalianBaroque composer and teacher. He was the father of Lorenzo Fago (1704-1793).

Born in Taranto, in the Apulia region, he studied music under Francesco Provenzale at the Conservatorio della Pietà dei Turchini in Naples between 1693-95.

Between 1704-08 he worked at the Conservatorio Sant’Onofrio, but from 1705-40 he was based at the Conservatorio della Pietà dei Turchini, where his pupils included Leonardo LeoFrancesco FeoGiuseppe de MajoNiccolo JommelliNicola SalaMichele de FalcoCarmine Giordani as well as his own son, Lorenzo. Fago war seit 1693 Schüler am Conservatorio della Pietà de’ Turchini in Neapel. Er wirkte dann von 1704 bis 1708 als Kapellmeister am Conservatorio Sant’Onofrio, von 1705 bis 1740 am Conservatorio della Pietà de’ Turchini und daneben von 1709 bis 1731 an der Capella del Tesoro di San Gennaro (im Dom von Neapel) und schließlich ab 1736 auch an San Giacomo degli Spagnuoli. Zu seinen Schülern zählten unter anderem Nicola SalaLeonardo Leo und Niccolò Jommelli.
